From RICHARD WILSON, Class of 1985

Richard Wilson at Bateaux2007

15 May 2013

Having recently visited the AIS/AES Alumni Network web site, I was inspired to say hello. I have owned and managed restaurants for the past 21 years. I currently own a little gourmet Pub called Maggie’s located in Habersham, Beaufort South Carolina. I graduated from AES Delhi 1985.

I stay in good contact with many AESers, and we have visited each other over the years! I started using Facebook in 2007, which has made finding and catching up (digitally) so much easier. Funny how many of us are on both FB and Twitter!

Here are a couple of old pictures…

I attended AES Delhi from
1981-85. After leaving AES, I
went to college in Richmond, Virginia. I worked my way
through school as a prep cook
both in Richmond and in Palm Beach, Florida, where my mother and grandmother were living. I quickly fell in love with cooking
and enrolled myself in culinary school.

I have cooked ever since. Own-
ing five restaurants. After many years I developed a knack for fixing "broken" restaurants so I started a consulting company. This brought me to South Carolina and my bride Peggy. It was a six-month rehab on an old plantation house which we turned
into an Inn. Peggy was working with the developer of the property; and as they
say, the rest is history. Ten years later, we are still in love and have devoted ourselves to family, our businesses, and our life with our Blue Australian Sheppard "Emily" here in Beaufort, South Carolina, on the coastal waters just south of Charleston. We travel to Europe, Central America and the Pacific as often as poss-
ible. We own Bateaux, a beautiful restaurant set on the water in the restored Customs House, circa 1838, in the little village of Port Royal, South Carolina.

Peggy has two grown boys, David and Jimmy; and they each have children. David lives in Beaufort with his wife and their two children so we spend Sundays with them eating and laughing. Peggy has a brother Michael and sister Janet who also live in Beaufort and spend Sundays at our side.

My sister Nicole, "Niki" who attended AES from '82-'85 is married now and living in Burlington, North Carolina, with her husband of nkne years and their son, my only nephew, Caden. My father, Burgess Wilson, who coached our AES Softball team for many years,
has retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico, with my stepmother Pat.

That is the story … hope to catch up with some of you soon.
