Maria Theresa Sanchez Class of 1983
ALUMNI MEET YEARS LATER
November 7, 2008
After leaving AES in January 1980 in the middle of 8th grade, my brother and I moved to Geneva, Switzerland where we spent the rest of our high school years at the International School of Geneva, La Chataigneraie.
Boy, did I miss AES during those years ! I graduated in 1983 (I skipped a grade upon entering La Chataigneraie) and went on to do my Bachelors of Science degree in Communications with a Journalism emphasis in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in the United States from 1983 - 1987. I returned to Geneva thereafter and worked for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from 1988 - 2006.
I am a twice cancer survivor - successfully battled cancer back-to-back in 2005 AND 2006. During treatment, I spent time finding and reconnecting with many friends from previous international schools during elementary and high school days, as well as with my old university friends in the USA. Right now I am real happy to be alive and so thankful to have an opportunity to go back to school. I am now working on a Masters degree in Social Work in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
As AES is my favorite international school where I have a lot of cherished memories, even if my attendance there was brief, I would love to reconnect with anyone out there from my grade or "era" (!). So please do drop me a line !
I've attached two photos. One is taken with my brother Antonio Sanchez (Class of 1985) and his family over a wonderful dinner reunion with my AES classmate Tepin Unakul in August 2008. We had not seen her since 1982 !! Another was taken in front of the Mall of America in Minnesota that same day in August 2008.
