Kathy Marquis Clark, AIS class of 1971, kclark@thegrid.net
I still live in the home of Bigfoot, beautiful Willow Creek, California, with my husband of 22 years Jim, our 6 cats and a dog. He's semi retired and I'm still living a very happy and busy life as a "Domestic Goddess" (or is that Desperate Housewife??) :-))) Right now things are hopping with the many yard projects we are trying to get done before summer hits and we get crazy busy. Unfortunately, this year, the weather has been less than cooperative so I'm feeling way behind. Since we live on about an acre, the yard is pretty much a full time job during the summer months when we're home. Jim and I continue to be devoted rockhounds along with our best friends and a few family members. Since the Reunion in 2001, we have taken a couple of major trips. One took us to Nevada, southern Utah, Arizona and northeastern California. That trip included some rockhounding but was mostly to gather the family to scatter my sister-in-law's ashes in Sedona, Arizona. In spite of the sad occasion, it was an awesome trip with an unbelievable variety of scenery!! Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante National Park and the southern Utah area, are places not to be missed! Last year we took a trip to eastern Oregon to a place called Succor Creek with our best friends and enjoyed more amazing scenery and some very interesting rockhounding. And of course the thing that started it all: we spend 10 days every February on the Oregon coast in a rented beach house, where all us rockheads gather for food, fun and beach agating. It's a great annual tradition and usually we come home with lots of goodies for the tumbler as well as other treasures. This year though, there was no gravel so we were forced to play tourist, enjoy the 75 degree weather and play lots of bocce ball on a makeshift court we built on the front lawn overlooking the ocean. Life is good!
Along with my trip to the east coast to visit my family and attend the reunion, the summer is shaping up to be a busy one! We are going to spend a week in one of our favorite places, Cedarville CA. when I get home. We go there several times a year as it's a great rockhounding area but even more than that, it's just a gorgeous spot. After that it's our annual camping trip to Lake Mountain to enjoy the view from the top of the world, before we travel up the coast of Oregon for a Clark family reunion at Cape Perpetua. Since I'm one of the organizers of this wing ding I expect to exercise some of the muscles from my old days as a prep cook/cater. To kind of finish off the summer and ease us into the slower pace of the fall we are going to Reno to see Los Lonely Boys and Robert Randolph and the Family Band, two unbelievably talented bands with great guitarists! That will bring us to football season where I expect to try my hand once again at beating some of my fellow AIS/AESers at Fantasy Football. I did pretty good as a novice last year but I intend to do even better this season!
So, that's what's new with me in a nutshell. I'm really looking forward to the reunion and having a chance to connect with old friends and classmates. See you soon!
